Hey all

Recently I bought myself a new PC, here are the specs:

Intel Core 2 duo E4500 @ 2.20ghz
XFX GeForce 8800gt Alpha Dog edition XXX(DDR3, 256bit, 512vid mem)
2gig DDR2 @ 800mhz RAM
EliteGroup uATX MotherBoard
Windows XP SP2

The Problem:
In almost all my games, i get major lag issues. In Team Fortress 2 for example, the game runs smoothly at 150FPS, then suddenly as soon as one character appears on screen my framerate drops dramatically. In a full firefight my FPS is about 20-25. The same lagg happens on max and minumum settings in any game I play. I formatted my pc, installed the newest drivers. Still didnt work. I installed the drivers I got with my GFX. Still didnt work. I ran 3d mark 06 and i get a score of 11000. So I'm thinking that this can't be a graphic card problem.

This happens in old games aswell. In GTA san andreas i get a FPS of 30 with the frame limiter OFF.

Vsync is also disabled in all my games. My Frend told me its my CPU's cache that is too low(2mb). Im just 17 years old and can't afford new hardware for my PC. I got this PC about 2 weeks ago.

Please I need help on this problem ASAP. Please E-mail me at [email protected]

thanks!!!!
:)

ok well have u had a look at what resolution your running in these games?

the problems sounds like a few things

get the latest nvidia drivers
make sure your chipset drivers for your mobo are installed

if your getting 11k on 3dmark im assuming your running your games higher than your cpu/card can run them

try drop the settings slightly and check

I am running E4500 with 8800GT 256Mb and 2G DDR 800, no problem in games like Battlefield 2142 and Prey.
Check what Killadoob suggested.

I play my games at a native res of 1280x1024. But no matter the res the same lag still happens. I downloaded the lastest drivers from Nvidia and still had the same problem. The FrameRate stays the same no matter how I alter the game video settings.

i dunno if that would make your performance go for a ball of shyte though

have you installed your chipset drivers like i suggested

download the latest one and update your bios

it could be your cpu but i seriously doubt that GTA is very cpu intensive

if it happens in all games then their is something wrong it could your cpu but i dont think so

how much was your mobo? what chipset is it running?

what size is your power supply? name brand or china special?

Lol..450w power supply..my mobo was about R1100...not sure what chipset its running, i bought the pc bre-built. Im quite new with pc's, started showing interest about 2 months ago.

Where do u check for ur chipster model number?
And where do i find the drivers for it?

thanks for the help by the way i really apreciate it!:)

Okay il do that in about 2 hours, im at school in the I.T. class.
So I should download the drivers for that model?

yea i would update bios and download the lastest chipset drivers for it

in all honesty i have never seen this make of motherboard in my life

I am also running 1280*1024.
Just a suggestion, please download GPUZ and check what core/memory speed your GFX card is running currently and the GPU temperature.
Maybe who every built your PC 'forgot' to plugin the 6 pin PCI-E power and your GFX is running at safety speeds.

Killadoob, elitegroup is just another name for ECS.......Low end/OEM stuff.

thanks cyber il go check that. I know that your card is basically the same as mine with just less video memory. What shou;d the core/memory speed be?

Your alphadog is XXX so it's factory overclocked. Should be like core 650 and mem 1800 (not sure but 800-900 * 2 is the range I would expect). Google for your model and you should know.

Last Valve game I played was HL2 and that's 2 years ago.....

You should buy orange box, TF2 is teh shyte.
Does your cache mem affect gameplay at all? The E4500 has a cache of 2mb right?

I used to have an ECS EliteGroup motherboard :(

What I found was that it seemed the southbridge (chip on the motherboard that deals with the GFX card tends to overheat and generally can't handle the amount of bussage being thrown at it from the gfx card. I didn't get the lag you speak of, but my PC would randomly restart when I was doing anything graphically intensive.

650i ?

Put a Zalman on my SB and a 60mm stealth on my NB heatsink.
