Hi all,

Ok I am an online gaming n00b :p

I have started playing again and some nights it is fine but for the last 2 I lag big time.

My Nat first shows strict, then moderate even though I have followed the NAT settings

Btw it is a netgear router and I only have a 384k line, eyed test shows

Download:35
Upload:9
Ping:55

That is the midrand nology speedtest

So question is, is it my settings or my line to slow?

I just don't see how sometimes it is sweet then others laggy, thus I think setting?

Thanks

Your ping seems fine, so I doubt that to be the problem, also there are a lot of guys gaming on 384 lines, so the line speed shouldn't be the problem either.
I think that MW3 works on P2P, so the problem can be on the hosting pc's side.

You can try these http://portforward.com/english/rout...ar/WGR614/Call_of_Duty_-_Modern_Warfare_3.htm to open the NAT, althought to be honest I don't know if it would help with lagging, but it is worth a try.
I did have lag issues with MW2 before I "opened" the NAT settings.

Hope this helps.

Sweet will try that tomorrow morning :)

I just select find game, don't know if p2p or a server :o

just forwarded those ports but if i go to canyouseeme, it shows i am unreachable :wtf:

weird, still shows ports are unreachable but i turned the nat filtering back on and now the game says nat open :wtf:

seems better but still not where it was.

Eish, sounds like MW3 might be drunk on some moonshine.

Hopefully someone here that has the game might be of some beter help then.

Doubt the ISP to be the problem, I have been using Afrihost for about 2 years now for online gaming and never had any real problems with them.

I am really thinking ISP as one second my Nat shows open, next it says strict, without changing any settings

Can you try a PPPoE dialup from your computer? That should prove if its your firewall/router.

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with your connection, if you use the "Find Game" option you've selected the P2P option of the game. There aren't a lot of people that play MW3 locally, so you're not always going to find some local players, then you'll be connected to international players, hence the lag you're experiencing.

What you can do, in your Options, go and enable dedicated servers, after you do that, the dedicated servers option will be available on your main menu. Dedicated servers aren't ranked, so you won't gain XP, but at least you won't lag and there is a ton of local dedicated servers to play on. You can in any case create yourself some custom classes to use on dedicated servers, so it's not all doom and gloom.

That is all fine and dandy, but the only servers active is Search&Destroy. I have finished playing Counter-Strike 8 years ago and am not in the mood to do it again, with all sort of stupid rules enforced. Other people are welcome to it, its just not my cup of tea.

But let me know when people will play other game types on the servers.

On the P2P option, for some of us it is just a lost cause, I am almost always get thrown in with a bunch of French dudes, or even people in Brazil.

Ok will try that, not keen for limitations as said below.

But what I don't get is how the Nat status goes from open to moderate to strict without me changing anything.
