I'm sure shareholders don't care when they see their growing bank balances.

Is Porsche not an exotic car brand any more?

Because that’s the only thing Lamborghini could end up as.

They’ll never do the volumes of Merc of BMW…or even Porsche.

And there’s nothing watered down here, they are still selling to exactly the same people, those people just have more options to choose from now.

well its not as special as it used to be.Back in the "old days" , if you saw a lambo or porsche , you would like "wow".Nowdays every 10th house wife is driving a porsche.I basically see a porsche everyday now.

There is a gap between ordinary cars and super cars that seems to be mostly determined by insurance. A lot of top end performance cars like Ferrari and Lambo's are only insured for driving on a Sunday. Porche's are insured like an ordinary car, and can be driven as a normal commuting vehicle. Heck, a lot of the Lambo's don't even fit nicely in a normal parking space.

I am guessing this SUV gets the normal insurance package hence higher sales. Only so many people on the planet can afford a car that expensive which you can only drive on a Sunday.

Doesn’t that say more about the distribution of wealth than the car company?

Porsche has a very serious local foot print so it makes sense we would be seeing more of them.

Lambo is as exotic as it’s ever been, including the Urus.

Cayennes are cheap comparatively speaking

Not really so much of a thing any more these days, but rather mileage limits per year over specific days of the week.

Porsche is probably insured better due to their local footprint making them much better supported and cheaper to repair reliably.

Lambos and the like are likely written off every time because there isn’t anyone specialist enough to repair them properly.

Sure thing, they do cater to a broader (cheaper) market with the Macan and Cayennes lines.

Lamborghini isn’t doing that. They are selling the Urus to their already existing customers who own other Lambos and want a daily runner from the same company they love.

It’s like throwing money away and pushing customers to other brands if they didn’t do this.

while i agree that the urus is bought by existing customers for a daily driver if you read the article it states that most of the urus owners are new to the brand ...

"Originally unveiled as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show in 2012, the Urus became an instant hit with motoring enthusiasts, with more than 70% of initial orders at launch coming from first-time Lamborghini buyers, said the premium manufacturer"

Yes, but then we would have to accept that stuff posted by TopAuto actually qualify as "articles".

:)

But yeah I can certainly believe it's bringing plenty of new customers to the brand, but you can surely agree those are still customers at the very top end of exotic car ownership that likely have a more practical need in life instead of a supercar. Wouldn't be surprised if they are winning customers over from the likes of Bentley and Aston Martin and the like who generally have less extreme line ups.

Or just people who always had money, but never a need for supercars and never had the option to buy an SUV in that class other than Range Rovers and such boring options.

SUVs have proven a great money line for super/exotic brands … Porsche SA if I’m not mistaken sell more SUVs than any other country in the world (as of a year or so ago)

Personally i did think it would water down the brand value of Porsche … but it certainly has not … they have successfully created products for each type of car enthusiast … there is a reason why there is a 2 yr +++ wait list on their GT models and these halo models have helped push sales on all their product lines. Not rare to see a person with a gt3 rs and then have a macan or cayenne or panemera as their daily’s

So ferrari lambo Aston doing SUVs was an inevitable

Edit: So I consider bmw/merc/Audi/Lexus as luxury brands with exotic being Ferrari and Lambo McLaren … Porsche falls between here … but having models like a 992 turbo s , Gt2 RS and 918 spyder in their lineup certainly make many of their model offerings super car / exotic … whilst a macan is definitely not exotic
