I have intermittent performance problems on a 100/1000LAN with 25 workstations. Operating system is Win 2003 server. I would like to be able to graphically see the load that each workstation is putting on the network at any given time. I have tried numerous software packages, but have not found one that does exactly what I want. Any suggestions on useful software or suggestions on how to solve network bottlenecks would be much appreciated.

Are you using switches to connect things? I would suspect elsewhere, like the server for the performance problem, not the network.

I suppose you could install SNMP on all PCs and using a tool like MRTG as ubercal suggest.

I am using a 12 port 3com 1000Mb managed switch and a 24 port 100Mb managed switch. Server has dual network ports that are teamed using adaptive load balancing.

if you're using managed switches, you should be able to see the utilisation on each port in the switch's interface (telnet, http, whatever). Once the problematic port is identified, trace it to the machine and monitor that machine.

Manually set the link speed and duplex on all the client NICs to 100M/Full. I have seen problems like this before where the auto-negotiation function was not working properly. On the server use the 1000M/Full setting. Connect two uplink cables between the switches.
