whats the lan input at the back of my samsung tv for? Internet access alone?

OTA Firmware updates are also done via the LAN input and allshare features it your TV supports it.

I have the sony bravia whatever also with a lan port, tv is pretty new, couple of months old.. what can i do with it?? i think its the ex46 led full hd..

There should be a software update. The Facebook and Twitter widgets are pretty lame. Otherwise sharing media from your phone or pc basically.

Allshare does suck, big time.. I use Mezzmo - works great! (Not free, but it's pretty cheap)

Yeah the AllShare PC software is pretty clunky, but you dont really need to use it (or any equivalent DLNA server) with Win7.

AllShare enabled TVs also include DLNA push functionality (called uPnP DMR, digital media renderer) similar to Apple's Airplay. In Win7 Explorer you can just select any (compatible) video, pictures or music files, right-click and select Play to ... [TV's device name], and instantly the TV starts playing the media without having to use its (also somewhat clunky) media player interface.

Really handy for quickly pushing media from my laptop over the air to my 46D6000 TV without the need to plug in via HDMI cable.

I have a Samsung wifi dongle for my Samsung TV, I have just upgraded the firmware with it but I am sure that you can do a lot of other stuff through it.

And where did you buy it? Cost?

I used one of those Trendnet wireless gaming bridges with my Sammy TV. Works quite well once set up correctly. Streaming movies over wireless using Serviio too (larger movie files do cause problems though as wireless network is an issue sometimes).

I learn something new everyday...

@FuLL_MeT4L does it share metroska files and folders of your choice? Allshare is k@k.

Yeah, mezzmo does play mkv. Basically it detects your TV and knows what that model can and can't play - it just transcodes the things that the TV can't play on the fly.
