I have a file server (freeNAS)

I named it "server" and connect it to the router with a network cable (Ubiquiti Airrouter)

The router reports it in the dhcp clients: hostname "server" with its ip address.

Cant ping "server" Tried ipconfig /flushdns; still cant ping "server"

so I added a fullstop "ping server." and it works. I have to point my web browser at "http://server." to log in and make changes.

I have the same setup with a mikrotik router at another client, and dont have to add the full stop.

What is causing this?

Is "server" the netbios name or DNS name?

I set the hostname "server".

I cant view dns entries on this router only dhcp leases.

Most things are working if I use the full stop at the end.

Here is something which does not: http://server./quixplorer/ As I log in the browser removes the full stop and cant connect. But for now it works with the ip address instead of the name...
