Hi. I wrote about this earlier, but I'm still struggling.

In the past I connected two PC's independently through a switch, but I got another ISP who only allows single logins, so I need to connect with one PC through the other, still using the switch.

I tried the Windows XP wizard, but it does not work. The one PC (the "slave" PC) wizard works OK it seems, but the wizard on the PC (that connects directly) gives an error: "Other computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer. In addition to its internet connection, this computer must have a connection to your network."

I had a local network before, through the switch, so I do not understand the last sentence.

Any help?

Well if you have adsl, i suggest doing what i did. get a modem/router with built in ethernet ports (ie its a ADSL router and switch in one) and then connect the computers to the router and presto. But if u have dial up or can't for some reason get another router then connetion sharing should work... Make sure u don't have firewalls preventing the slave from connection to the master comp etc...

Thanks Scooby_Doo.

I have ADSL. I enabled ICS but it wont work. Sometimes the PC gives an error message that there is a conflict of IP addresses on the network (2 machines), so something must be happening. I disabled all firewalls, but no results. Also a google search did not give me spot-on results.

That is why I reverted to my final desperate measure: ask the experts on this site ;)

You must enable ICS on the PPPoE login i.e share the PPPoE. Normally Windows will auto set the IP's - also set the "slave" PC to auto IP detect.

Now you have me slightly confused. What make/model of router do you have now? Prior to this did you have a modem for each computer?

You pretty much want to avoid ICS if at all possible.

I'm assuming that you've got a normal ethernet ADSL modem, which is connected to the switch along with the two machines?
If the networking wizard doesn't help you, try putting in the settings manually.
Open up your network connections and share your ADSL connection (properties --> advanced). Normally this will automatically change the IP address of that host computer to 192.168.0.1.
Then on the slave machine, set the IP address to auto assign. The slave will then get assigned an IP address by the host machine, as well as a default gateway of 192.168.0.1.

And that should be that. If you open network connections on the slave machine, the internet connection of the host machine should pop up there.
