This is a bit of a shot in the Dark....

But does anyone know if it is possible to download the SA maps update for LandRover nav system?

Land rover charge 300$ or something crazy for the CD.

Thanks

What Maps does it use and what hardware?Garmin, Garmaps, google Maps, T4A give me an idea and i might be able to help you.

I went to test drive a Disco last week and I asked the salesperson specifically about the map updates and he said I can just bring the car in and they'll update it for free when then new maps come out.

It's maybe just this specific dealer that offers this kind of deal. But maybe you should go and find out at your dealer, maybe they can help you out?

Good luck!

We have taken the car to the dealer, who has told us that if we want the latest maps we have to purchase the CD/DVD. The car is a 2008 Discovery 3.

As for what displays on the screen when the nav system starts up, there is nothing other than the Land Rover logo that comes up.

I have searched rapidshare and torrents and can only seem to find maps for Europe. I am no expert at finding these things however....

Which is why, in 5 years, I never pushed the sale of a car with a nav system. The costs involved are eye-watering, both for the updated maps & for initial purchase.

Premza, I don't know if you're going to have much luck. Navteq supplies the mapping data for the majority of manufacturers and I remember a VW Touareg navi DVD as the ONLY piece of software I just could not get copied. Ever.

Here is the link to Navteq's own online shop's listing for the Disco 3 disc - £174!!11!111!!!!11! Probably doesn't even include shipping to SA.

Thisis a shot in the dark and could be a major operation. And i don't know if it will wipe out your warranty.
Remove the unit and find out what connecters the unit has (usb) and see if it can be connected to a pc. The next problem is to find out what hw is inside and what sw is being used. Maybe change it to Garmin sw.

hmmm....I dont think I would do that with my limited expertise.

The first thing I don't understand is how they sell the cars in SA with maps of Europe...its not like you gona drive over to Europe...dealers should carry this cost...as they sold the Discovery with the SATNAV as a feature...what's the purpose of the feature if one can't use it!!!

I have a copy of the 2012 SA maps for Land Rover

I've just purchased the original 2012 SA maps from NAVTEQ and have been able to backup my original disc. Pls email me for more info. [email protected]

The South African discoveries come with the ZA maps - Discovery 3 has a DVD player under the front passenger seat with the disc in it. Discovery 4 has a HDD based NAV system
