Hi guys,

I'm in a dilemma and need some input for the community here.

This laptop my kid has been using is beginning to get a tadfrustrating. He just needs it to connect to Teams for his daily online Grade 1 lessons. The current laptop which is a full of lag, or needs constant rebooting, is a Dell Intel Celeron 1.60Ghz with 4.00GB RAM, and 1TB HDD, that is like 10% filled.

Now Do I upgrade or just replace the machine ?

What to upgrade, how quick and expected cost (I'm based in JHB, willing to drive out to get it done if needed)
OR
If you advise on replacing - are there any reasonable deals out there with spec for the purpose intended?

Any suggestions will be welcomed - been searching online since yesterday and even more confused on what to do now.

1. Replace your current 1TB with a 240gb or 256gb SSD, also you might want to check if your laptop takes a M.2 or mSATA slot which you can add in and install Windows and keep the 1TB for storage.
2. When reinstalling Windows after a drive change ensure you are installing the x64 version so you can utilize the full capacity of RAM on the system.
3. When you install your Office package just install the necessary or basic package as now you would have a smaller drive.
4. After you have installed all apps and ran all Windows updates and drivers, run system disk cleanup to cleanup unwanted updates stored during the Windows upgrade process.
5. If there is an option to upgrade your ram memory ensure you get same speed of memory to match unless you going with 1x 8gb.
6. Get a good antivirus if you are not sticking with Windows Defender, something that will not consume too much system resources.

I would increase ram first before ssd, but even with both upgrades done you will need to start uninstalling as much bloat ware as possible as that celeron is probably hitting max usage rate often.
