Hi Guys,

I need to get a new laptop and based on my requirements I found this laptop : the dell vostro 3560- http://www.laptopdirect.co.za/laptop_specifications.php?laptop=60032 that would suit my needs (and its in budget).

I have trouble finding a similar spec Lenovo one but not the thinkpad edge models (screen res dont go high enough) and the thinkpad W series is going to break my back (weight wise). Do you guys know if the tseries (think its the T530) is available in this country?

I havent really considered other makes but I require the following (not negotiable):

i7 ivy bridge quad core
8gb of ram (bonus if it can upgrade to 16)
1920 x 1080 screen resolution
3 year warranty (can be walk in)
wifi

Im not a gamer, so extra graphics is optional but a bonus if it comes with.

I could get the dell, but I am not a huge fan so I am hoping a thinkpad t is roaming around/coming soon and then I'd rather wait.

Any advice? or knowledge about the lenovo t530?

If you specify what sort of tasks you need to perform with this laptop it will be easier to help you along. I own a Dell I7 laptop, an Inspiron N5110 and let me tell you that Dell doesn't play games when it comes to customer service especially if you own higher end
Dell products (like the Vostro). If you're looking for a stress free product with regards to after sales service and the like then Dell is the way to go. I mean for example in the beginning of the year my Dell laptop charger blew, they flew in a new charger from JHB to DBN for me in less than 24 hours. If that's not customer satisfaction then I don't know what is. You should really go for the Dell if warranty concerns and reliability are major factors for you.

Do you need a docking station, because that would limit the models drastically too!

Lastly, what kind of work would you be doing on the laptop?
If it is graphics design/video editing, then you should opt for a laptop with a workstation graphics card, which would mean that it would cost even more.

Dell Inspiron 15R (N5520) 15.6" Notebook Computer (NBDEN552031811W7HP) - Silver - R10,279.95(incl. VAT)

This one has 100 Mbit LAN and lower graphics (AMD Radeon HD 7670M 1GB).

Dell Inspiron 15R (N7520) 15.6" Notebook Computer (NBDEN752031812W7HP) - Silver - R11,889.95(incl. VAT)

This one has Gigabit LAN and better graphics (AMD Radeon HD 7730M 2GB), otherwise they are the same.

Both have the following:

i7 ivy bridge quad core
8gb of ram, maximum of 8GB
1920 x 1080 screen resolution
3 year warranty
wifi

aah yes.. I should specify what I want to use it for :P

It will be used for development and I will probably go through periods where I work in different locations, so a docking station wouldn't matter but battery life would. I am not planning on doing any graphics intensive work and I dont play games, so anything extra in that regards is a bonus but not required.

Thank you all for dell advice. Nothing on Lenovo though? I'd prefer Lenovo and I find it hard to believe that the t530 is so hard to find.
