Hi guys,

Hope you're all doing well. I am in need of a laptop and I thought now might be a good time to buy as I'll be heading to the UK soon for a short trip and could possibly buy something there.

It essentially needs to be light enough to comfortably carry as well as powerful enough to run some simulations in (R, STATA,SAS, Anaconda) . It would be great if it had at least 8GB RAM and an SSD would be a great extra. Windows 10 would also be essential.

I'm probably looking at around about 700 GBP in the UK. Any suggestions? Laptops do seem to be cheaper in the UK.

Thank you :)

Go local

Have a look for an HP zbook 2nd hand or the hp 820/840/850

You can pick them up from 4000 plus with i5 and above. Those are very easy to upgrade generally. The older zbooks are heavier as they were workstations where the 820 is light.

If you need a larger screen buy the dell p2414h for when you need to do work but for all else its compact.

If you need an ssd get an samsung evo 850 (dont bother with the pro) and get transcend memory about 800 for 8gb module (check compatibility). And then setup windows 10 64bit with the serial from the license on the laptop and it will motor along.

Thank you, Corelli. Are there any reputable refurbished laptops dealers you can recommend?
