Hi I'm currently in the market to buy a new Laptop. I need something powerful for my motion graphics ,video editing and graphic design. Also looking to do a bit of gaming, although I already have a PS4 so it's not really important.

I saw a deal for ACER G9 I7 6700HQ ( almost 50% off ).I'm not tech savvy and understand nothing about graphics cards , ram etc. I would like to know if this laptop would meet my needs and be able to play the latest games or are there better options out there considering the laptop price has been cut by half from R40000 to R19999

The specs are
ntel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz) 16 GB DDR4 Memory (4 MEMORY SLOTS) 128GB SSD + 2TB HDD NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980M 8G-GDDR5 17.3" IPS Full HD LED backlit LCD Non-Glare 802.11ac + Bluetooth® 4.0 3

Thank you and really appreciate your help

No one replied to you? Ok I will :)
The price sounds temping, but it is a demo unit. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but still...
The new 10-series Nvidia GPU's perform significantly better than the previous generations , which this one has, but at this price range, a new gaming laptop would have a GTX 1050/1050Ti. The 980m, although older, is still a lot faster than these mid-range cards. The CPU, although its also a generation older, won't be much of a problem at all. The benchmarks for the G9 are great. There are many detailed reviews available: "Notebookcheck" generally has great reviews covering every single aspect of the device. (Don't think I'm allowed to post the link).
Anyway, the only bad things about getting this laptop seem to be the huge size, weight, fan noise and low battery life. If you can live with these things, then nothing at this price (in South Africa) can rival it. Just read reviews to get a good understanding about the pros and cons.

Laptop Graphics: GTX 1050 < GTX 1050 TI < GTX 980M < GTX 1060
Deal's good, just make sure you get the warranty in case anything is wrong with it and that the seller is reputable.

The G9 is an incredible machine (I reviewed that same model), but I've personally found the edge of the wrist rest to be sharp. Unless it's sitting on some sort of stand at an incline, it might be an issue for extended use typing on the keyboard (which is very good, btw). If you can get it for under R20k with a full warranty, then it's a great deal, and it wipes the floor with a lot of other similarly priced options.

You can get about four hours of gaming battery life from it as well if you tweak all the right settings.

But if its out of stock, you have some options.

Acer Predator G9-791 17.3-inch @ R14,599 (Core i5-6300HQ quad-core, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, GeForce GTX 970M 3GB, backlit keyboard)
Dell Inspiron 15 7567 15.6-inch @ R15,999 (Core i5-7300HQ quad-core, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GeForce GTX 1050 4GB, Red backlit keyboard)
ASUS ROG Strix GL553VD 15.6-inch @ R14,158 (Core i5-7300HQ quad-core, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GeForce GTX 1050 4GB, RGB keyboard)
HP Omen 15 @ R19,999 (Core i7-7700HQ quad-core, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 2TB HDD, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB, Red backlit keyboard)

Given everything, I'd just jump on the HP without blinking. Slightly better graphics performance, much better battery life, and four more threads than the other Acer G9 is quite a good deal.

By far the best deal you can get at the moment..

The next closest would be the HP Omen and thats on special at R25000 with same specs except for graphics card - Nvidia 1050 card
