laptop as wi-fi router

What operating system is the machine you're wanting to share the connection from? You can share your internet connection through windows and setup an ad-hoc wifi network for your other machines to connect to, should be simple.

Google ICS + OperatingSystem + ad-hoc wifi
Should produce plenty how to's
e.g

Just bear in mind that there are two elements to set up:
1) Ad-hoc wireless connection
2) Internet connection sharing
