I have a 4 year old Sony Vaio. Bought it for R6k, backlight has gone on the screen and they want to charge me R4k to repair it. I refuse to pay 60% of the original purchase price 4 years later to have a screen repaired. Does anyone know of a laptop repair place in the Durban area that is reasonable and doesn't take forever?

Who did you go to anyway ? Is it Rectron ?

went to Sony in Gateway. They were shutting down so sent me to Rectron. Sorry but R4000 to repair a backlight is beyond dodgy.

They replacing the screen more than fixing it.
Also the R/$ has lost about 40% value since then, so most of the cost is in the loss the exchange rate. So the R6k machine will cost R10k now with the Exchange rate loss. So you can't simply say 60%.

I know a place in Jhb which does generic screens and could help you at half the price. Courier the unit over night and have a quick repair. Else good luck in finding someone in the Dbn area.

I know someone else that had their VAIO breakdown recently and can't get it repaired.

I know Matrix Warehouse in Springfield Park were doing laptop repairs and so was Mitabyte.

Spoke to CRT and also checked laptopaccessories and neither one can assist unfortunately. Best advice I can give anyone out there. Stay away from Sony. I now have had 2 phones that were dodgy and a laptop that was dodgy.
