Any advice here will be valued.

I have an HP ProBook 6540b (it's a 15.6" iirc) and I need to replace my existing backpack. It's worn out, right strap is 'on its last legs' and looks shabby. I have a preference to a backpack, as I find it convenient to carry around and I can get more into it, i.e. laptop, files and accessories.

I have spotted this Targus on Prophecy, which looks like it might do the job. It's reasonably priced (I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere online, just prefer dealing with this retailer).

I am happy to spend a bit more to get a comprehensive backpack. I am looking for something reasonably rugged.

So I was wondering what backpacks you are using to lug your machine around in. Would be grateful if you could post your experience of your bag here too.

Thanks in advance. :)

I'm using a Swiss Gear Ibex. The thing is ginormous. Been able to fit a 17" laptop, motherboard box, power brick, muose, various travel stuff like electric shaver, toothbrush, jersey, and a few more things in it. It has shoulder straps that also make it seem a bit lighter, so your shoulders dont get sore that quickly. But it is closer to R1000 and I think there is a newer model out as well

I have the XS as I have a 13" notebook and I love it, best one I have owned and I imagine the XL is just better because you can get more crap in it :D

Go for it!

Looks good. Fairly good review by the fellow on You Tube:

Edit: apart from Want-it-all, anywhere else this can be viewed/bought?

First link you've probably never heard of but they legit (dad bought something small a few weeks ago, R50 total and free shipping to boot iirc)
Second link shows a dollar price for me, dont know if thats cause I'm in the states right now
Wantitall's price made me lol :p

Looks like it is quite sturdy. Nice design too. But not being able to fit the lunchbox is definitely a critical design flaw :D

The Targus is really good. I have been using it for a few months now and it is comfortable even with my heavy (17 inch) laptop.

Try the Targus CityGear models, cool design and you can fit books, binders and laptop accessories. Quite comfortable i know

I've got this Targus and love it. Had it since 2005 and in daily use, it still in perfect condition. If I'm not mistaken Targus give life time warranties.

I can also vouch for the Targus backpacks...

I have had mine for 5 years. It is used daily and is still perfect. It has seen 15.4" to current 17" notebooks with power cables, adapters, disks, etc etc... has traveled with me many times from JHB to DBN and back and now CPT.

It still looks new. Nothing breaking or fraying. The only thing is the velcro strip that straps the laptop down is getting a tad unsticky... it was actually meant for a 15" notebook and I confess to stretching it a bit with the 17". It also has a lifetime warranty... so I guess I could just stroll into Incredible and have them exchange it... like I did with the original one I purchased in 1999... used it untill the strap frayed and Incredible did the swap-out for this one in 2006... no invoice required... they looked up the serial number... phoned the supplier and then gave me the equivalent new model.

One of the best purchases I have ever made.

Targus also offer a great life-time warranty on their kit, I had a bag with a broken zip and got it replaced after 1.5 years, no problem.
