Laptop Battery Question

Do the Lithium ion batteries in laptops these days really need the 16-24 hour charge before first use? Because I know this used to be necessary with older batteries, but I have been doing some research and have read in a few places that this is not required for the modern batteries.
Any input would help a lot, thanks in advance

nope. it just needs to be full... what is important is to let it cycle from completely full to completely flat to completely full the first few times at least... most modern batteries only reach peak performance after a few cycles anyway.
