I have a Pavilion DV6735Ei HP.
It uses a 10.8V 55Wh 4840mAH piece of crap battery that has been replaced twice due to it not lasting over the years.

What I want to understand is can one not get cheaper knock off batteries? I mean R700 approx for a battery that doesnt last very long anyway is a rip off. You would expect original HP products to last but they dont. Well not Pavilion stuff.

Can one not get a battery manufacturer to make a cheaper battery that also lasts longer in terms of charge? 1 hour on a single charge when the battery is new is not really very good.
Surely there must be a way to make a Laptop last longer like for example a Tablet?
Why do PC manufacturers not make batteries or systems that just last longer like the Apple products?

my batteries last about 2 years long. I use it like the cellphone, charge, disconnect ac, when getting low, charge, etc.

Off my colleagues last 6 months [ their batteries ] , always on ac.
There was however on HP model that's batteries did not see 1 year. Maybe it was to light for the job.

Lithium Iron batteries don't need to be fully discharged before recharging like old Nickel Cadmium batteries.
I don't think it's so much your battery if you had to replace the HP with a more economical laptop with a LED backlight and maybe a SSD you'll find your battery life shoot up to 3 or 4 hours maybe more with even a similar battery.

GL!

yes, you can, problem is by the time it lands with duties shipping etc you looking at around R450

As far as I know HP battery life is about 3 years or less....

If you are not happy with the battery life I'd suggest maybe investing a bit...

If you think you're battery's life cycle is over, then get something like the Long Life Battery for about R555.

If you want to extend that even more, get a Extended Life Battery (Basically a dock under your laptop that ends up being a battery on a battery). They're about R825.

Not exactly sure on the knock off batteries and if they do last longer other than being cheaper...

My last battery also only lasted a year.

I posted on some laptop forumn and basically what I was doing was wrong. You should not fully charge and discharge all the time. So I thought if that is the case you might not have the battery in at all.

So now I am using the laptop without battery as I always have access to a power source.

Hi,

Try for generic laptop batteries, laptop accessories. Their prices are the best in terms of compatible batteries.

Doing a search on their site shows 1 battery

The previous workplace i was at used them and they very helpful.

They are based in jhb but delivered very quick to us down in kzn, stanger.

Good luck :)

Edit: Libertas link for that hp long life is better than the one quoted, it fits right in to how much you willing to spend. If you can, i too recommend the docking station.

Be careful about doing that - if you leave your battery off for too long and it fully discharges it will damage it and it won't hold a charge after that.

As with all things, moderation is the key - leave the battery in all the time even on AC (use a laptop cooler to keep the heat down) and once a month, use it on battery only until it runs down.

HP Sucks big time, used to only have HP products but the service and quality is shocking. The products look great, but thats about it. Apple is not that much better, my macbooks battery is poked and its only been 2 and a half years of extensive use. Maybe i set very high standards :P
