So it's already getting warmer and I can feel my laptop starting to heat up a lot quicker (especially underneath). I usually raise the laptop off the desk and put a large fan next to it, but I haven't got much space on my desk this year. So was thinking of getting a stand with a fan, something like:

but there's so many, especially on http://www.comx-computers.co.za/computer-hardware.php?cat=470 ranging from R100 (the pic above) up to R500 like these:

I don't need usb ports and would prefer mains powered, although I could always get a mains -> usb adapter for it. My main concern is that it keeps the laptop cool. Oh and a silent fan would also be a big plus. Anybody using these and have any recommendations / suggestions? Thanks.

I use them but not on notebooks. I cool a launch XBOX360 and A Launch 60Gb PS3 with them. 200mm fan Coolermaster ones. As I recall they were under 90 bucks on Sybaritic.

I would also recommend opening up the laptop and give the vends a nice air blow if its clogged with dust (unless its a hassle). :D
Was also considering this as it's probably quite dusty in there by now. It involves removing the keyboard (and possibly the display - need to check the manual) - so not that big a problem, just a bit of a mission :). I'll actually try do it this weekend, but I'd still like to get a cooling stand. Will check out the coolermaster, thx.
