Hi.

I bought a Samsung R519 laptop in December 2009. It had Windows 7 Home Basic Preloaded onto it.

The problem now is i think I had a virus or something because EVERYTHING is lost on my laptop. I cannot even operate it anymore as I think it must of been formatted or something. My problem now is. I made a recovery disc of all the drivers and so on but it seems like it never made a proper recovery for
windows. I am not so clued up when it comes to computers but when I put the disc in it only wants to install the drivers and Windows 7 patches. What to do now???
I still have the label with my Windows 7 product key but don't have the Windows 7 home basic disc to install again. What can I do now???:confused::confused:

Any help will be appreciated.

I have a Windows XP home edition on disc, the genuine disc with product key but i really do not want XP on. I like Windows 7 so much.

Any help will be appreciated

Well since you have a legit key I'm sure a PC shop can order you a legit windows 7 disc from Microsoft? (I once had my Windows XP disc replaced by Microsoft cause mine was scratched) Or you can ask someone to make a copy of their home premium disc for you, is it a 32 or 64bit Home Premium? Maybe I can send you a copy of my disc.

where are you located? If you are in Durban I can do everything for you.

There may be a chance that it'll work, probably not(using another disc). As the version for which you have a sticker key (on the bottom of your laptop) may be different to the version that the key is valid for.

Attempt to contact the seller/distributor of your laptop or ask who distributes them in SA, get a CD from them. Oh, and good luck

Sounds worth while to give it a try. But will my key which is for home basic work with home premium? It use to be 32 bit but I wonder if a 64 bit will work on my laptop? It is a Celeron(R) Duel Core T3000 @ 1.80 GHz

K. What is the difference between Retail and OEM version of Windows 7?
There is none. The builds are exactly the same. Only the "Channel" heading in the file "sources/ei.cfg" specifies either "Retail" or "OEM". But this is not definitive since if you use an OEM product key it will switch to OEM, and if you use a Retail product key it will switch to Retail. So at the end it doesn't matter which one you install.

G. How to unlock the other editions of Windows?
All the editions of Windows are included in the ISO image available to download in this guide. To be able to select the edition you want during the installation, you just need to delete the file "ei.cfg" that is in the "sources" folder. Use this Removal Utility ( direct download) to remove the file from the ISO you downloaded, it takes only 2 seconds!

Note that if you install another edition than Ultimate, you won't be able to enjoy multi-language and to change the display language of Windows with one of the 35 languages available. Only the Ultimate edition has this feature.

If you wonder which edition of Windows to install, be aware that according to Microsoft, all the editions of Windows have the same level of performance (system requirements are the same for all editions). Differences between editions are mainly about functionalities (compare editions of Windows). The Ultimate edition is the edition that includes functionalities from all the other editions, this is the most complete and the most flexible.
