I have a Toshiba satellite pro, 4 months out of its guarantee period and disk is giving me problems, spinrite managed to revive it but I hear it is making noises it shouldn't. What are prices for these small laptop drives, current disk size is about 40 GB and how/who to transfer the data.

Get a 80gig 7200rpm drive they make a huge difference from the 5400 rpm one thats normally standard they retail for about R1300, the 5400rpm one goes for about R800 - 900. As to data transfer get a 2.5" external HDD chassis then stick the 40gig in it and you have a portable drive in a nice small form factor and it solves your problem of getting data off the drive. Chassis goes for about R200 - 400 depending on make.

Thanks, the computer shop I bought only deals in cash so didn't have enough for the HDD chasis/or ide to usb but got the disk of size and speed you recommended and now installing windose.
