Hello peeps. Seeking advice

I have a work-provided Dell Latitude E7440.

I'm looking at docking station options.

I currently run two screens off the laptop - via the HDMI and display port ports, and have a USB hub attached. I'm looking at getting a dock to save the hassle of plugging in and out 5 cables every day.

Anyone have any experience with this:http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdr1&sku=452-bbpg?

What is the one cable that connects the laptop to the dock-is it a USB.2.0? Is it worth the money?

Thanks in advance :)

Your link doesn't work?

My office uses Dell laptops and docks for all staff (an older model dock to the one in your image though). It just works by clicking the laptop into place on the base of the dock, no cables to connect. As such it's 'worth it' - it makes the morning setup a breeze. Our laptops are Dell Latitudes and the docks have big custom connectors that plug directly into the base of the laptop.

That's what we have. No clue where to get them in SA, but I imagine it shouldn't be that hard. They're standard office kit.

Our docks have two VGA connectors on the back, but there is also a DisplayPort which would probably be better for your needs (you can daisy chain your multiple monitors).
Thanks, man. That looks good. I've seen that very dock at a client and it looked pretty decent.

I guess the advantage with a dock that connects via a cable, is that if we get new laptops, the bespoke Dell connectors at the bottom of the laptop don't have to work with the dock. I understand the Dell connectors are not universal so not all lappies have the same ones...

Nice! Would you recommend Wootware to order from?

And what cable connects the dock to the laptop? Is it just one USB2.0 jobbie?

Definitely! but There are similar units elsewhere (I know Makro also sells them)
It connects via USB 3.0 or 2.0.

Mine is currently on a USB 2.0 port and using the 3.0 to charge my phone :P
Didn't make a difference at all as far as I can see.

Just one USB3 to laptop, both screens running at full HD (not Nu-World full HD but real Full HD)

And not to be a noob but is the USB3 connection, the same physically as a USB2 one, just 3 is faster than 2 or is it whole different connector?

Same as USB 2.
Now I am wondering if USB 2 has enough bandwidth to push 2 x full HD to screens...

Can't test as I only have 2 USB3 ports on my laptop

I'm wondering the same thing...

Currently the monitors are coming straight out of the back of my laptop which is why they are working fine at those resolutions.

Also got a few D3100's at the office. Works great. We all on Dell XPS13's but I imagine it would be no different on any other device. I see there is a new version which connects via USB C and charges the laptop too, but reviews were not too great so I decided to skip on them for now.

Awesome. How many screens are you running off each one?

2 x 1080p screens each. And the laptop screen is on too (4k scaled to 1080)
