Hi guys

I am starting my studies overseas and need to get a lappy to work on (goodbye poor desktop you have served me well  )

Where is a good place to buy from these days?

and help tracking down what I am looking for is also greatly appreciated.

so because it will be used for graphic and inustrial design work (3d rendering etc) and a bit of animation it needs to be on the beefier end.

I don't have the money for a Macbook pro so please don't bother recommending one. If I could afford one it would be my first choice.

Main requirements:

15" cannot work on 13 too small, and while I would consider 17" my back is already getting phantom pains.

16GB RAM

Dedicated GPU

colour accurate IPS panel (100% SRGB and as much Adobe RGB possible before prices get ridiculous)

SSD

not too worried about CPU as by the time you fulfil my other requirements they seem to be on the better end of the spectrum anyway.

Nice to have if within means:

Display port or thunderbolt 3

>FHD... 1440p etc

BUDGET:

15- 20k but the closer to 15 the better

Thanks in advance.

In your dreams.

When you look at above 1080p for 15" you go way out your budget if you buy new.

if you stay within 1080p you should be able to meet your other requirements

Where is "overseas" ?
Perhaps might be cheaper there.

Can anyone comment on the build quality of Gigabyte laptops?

Yes, I can \:D/

I have the P37x V5, and it is built solid. Aluminium around the keyboard / back of the screen. Doesn't feel flimsy at all.

I am unsure about the P15F, but I know there is a variant of the P37x that has a 4k screen with that Adobe RGB rating thing. But it's probably way over 40k.

+1 to where
If it's a place like Germany you should be able to get a student discount.

It is actually Germany :D

It might be cheaper, but I can't really afford the downtime as I will still be doing some work for clients en route etc and starting to look after I get there at suppliers I know nothing about just seems really daunting to me.

Unless anybody knows any German suppliers I can get in touch with now

Ask Amazon.de directly, they should give you a discount, they did for me when I asked. Otherwise get in contact with the university and ask to be directed to the relevant department, they should redirect you.

Thanks for the advice I will do that
