If you wanted to start studying online for graphic designing, which sort of laptop, or specs, should one be looking at to help with assignments or tasks?

Do you need a high end laptop for graphic designing or will a normal everyday laptop work?

Do you currently have a computer?

Imo just start the course and use what you've got. Chances are you'll be fine with the kind of graphic design you'll be doing, especially at the start. See what software the course uses & get a demo and see if it runs.

My wife wants to start studying graphic designing and our only pc is attached to our tv so she thought of perhaps buying a second hand laptop seeing as she cant do only courses on our tv.

Does the course use Photoshop or any specific software?

No no no, she has not decided yet on which type of graphic designing she would like to do but she does not want to be in a situation where she buys a machine now only to later on realise it is not going to work.

I have no idea about graphic designing, neither does she but she wants to start studying graphic designing.

Not sure what her budget is but the machine will not be used for working, only to complete the courses.

Get a budget. A laptop can cost anything from 10K to 50K or more..

Most of Apple products are fit for 'graphic design'. But it cost.

It also depends what kind of 'graphic design'.

It will most likely be an Adobe product. So Photoshop or Illustrator.

Well then it would be pointless buying an expensive laptop. Graphic design usually starts with principles relating to layout, typography, color etc. and is very unlikely to be work that demands an expensive machine. I've got a 10 year old pc in the office that runs most software fine providing I don't push it.

Might also be cheaper to build a desktop and upgrade as necessary.

Imo just use the tv-connected pc for the first week and get a feel for what you need. If the course only entails theory and online work than any basic system will do.

Thanks for the help, I will convey the message to her.

Get a MiBox for the TV and let your wife work on the desktop
There is no space for the pc anymore in the house that is why I connected it to the tv so that in the event of someone that needs to use the pc it is there, we dont use it for anything else.

The "office" was turned into a bedroom for our second child.

Move the first child into the TV room...
