I have someone looking for a laptop for the sole purpose of extensive penetration testing. I initially recommended the Lenovo Y700 but saw it was released in 2015.

The person mentioned it should have a dedicated GPU and not bigger than a 15 inch screen.

Preferably not MSI, Asus or Gigabyte.

Any recommendations or will the Y700 still be more than enough?

There was a dell I was looking at today.
Will look it up tomorrow if I get a chance.
Comes with 3 year next business day onsite...

Needed now or over time?
You'd probably want a laptop with a GTX1050 Ti or GTX1060 or RX460 or RX 470.
The Y700 line are still GTX 960Ms, the cheapest new gen GTX 1050 (mobile) is 44% faster.
Also the GTX 960M bottlenecks due to the memory bus, which would be even more important in your use case.

Guess it depends on his budget, I'm considering the Lenovo P50 and P51 at the moment.

Those actually look very good. Do you have a supplier that you prefer buying from?

Our IT guy got a quote from "Get Information Technology" for me, it was pretty reasonable. Of course, the P51 has just been announced, so I'm holding out for availability in March/April.

Thanks, seems like they are not a online store. Will keep looking.

Is there any other online shops I can look at to buy this equipment from? I have checked wootware and Raru so far but dont really know where else to look.

Would have been golden but for some reason the person do not want to use a msi, gigabyte or asus machine, dont ask me why as I won't be able to answer you.

I am just struggling with online sites that indicates stock available but when asking for a quote the tune changes to no stock and not able to say when stock will arrive.

The quote we got had a 6-8 week lead time, fwiw.

Just get him a dell with 3yr onsite warranty, look for the model they sell overseas preloaded with linux, wipe the hdd and install kali or ubuntu for him.

The XPS 13 or 15 are also good options, but can be quite pricey.

Then again, if this is a business tool, and it helps you to do the job you are being paid to do, that should be largely immaterial. (Modulo ridiculousness like the MSI monsters at R117k, of course!)
