Laptop HDD on a desktop PC

Is something like this possible? The hard drive on the laptop of a colleague of mine packed up. When booting the laptop up he enountered error messages of corrupt and/or missing files. You could start it up in safe mode. The HDD has been replaced, but we want to see if we can recover some of the files from the disk. Any help will be appreciated.

Sure its possible - you need to get the right adapter. I got mine from a local parts supplier a while back but they're not pricey..

Or you can get an external usb2 case designed for a laptop drive and do it that way.

Yep, the chassis are quite cheap now (look at the Nexstar3 ones - I think they go for about R200)

Here's what I use - about the size of a cigarette pack.
The housing costs around R200 from most dealers and takes standard notebook drives.
USB powered and much cheaper than stick if you compare price/space.
