laptop hibernation

The way you normally get a pc out of hibernation is you switch it on.

Well try holding the power button down for 5 seconds. I don't know!

Excellent idea. It will shut it down. Then start it up again and it will 'come out of hibernation'.

hmm great tried that already thank you!

If you tried that already, and it did not work, as in ... it was off, you turned it on, did not work? .... methinks it ain't in hibernation mode to begin with then.

just what I was thinking, as hitting the power button should'a done the trick

nope tried everything already.

switch it off last night - the usual XP way shutting it down, put it on charge.

when I switched it on this morning the blue power light came on / the green wireless network light came on / the fan came on but no Hdd or screen. then all the lights went off again except for the blue power light.

tried all the tricks on the site already.

when I hold the start button for 4s then the blue power light goes off.

make sure mains is out, unplug battery. Plug in mains, start laptop, leave 5min. Leave mains in. Plug battery in again. Allow to run on mains for 3-4 hours before unplugging.

Sometimes batteries get their ''underwear in a knot''.
This clears it's memory.
If the laptop dies & wont come on after it is plugged in then you have a faulty battery.

If running direct on mains & wont come on then there could be other faulty components.

Hibernation has nothing to do with the drivers. Hibernation is software related, so there are absolutely no difference between doing a cold start or starting after you've put the PC in hibernation. All you need with hibernation is enough free hard drive space (the amount of memory in use, which can easily be 3GB in this day & age).

Standby mode on the other hand is different. I've had issue where my PC would not go into standby correctly due to faulty drivers in Ubuntu OR that it wouldn't correctly start after being in stand by mode due to faulty BIOS settings.
