Laptop low memory warning

It won't hurt to scan the machine for viruses.

This is free and the best way.

Make a Kaspersky (AVG/Bitdefender) rescue disk/stick and boot with that. Then update to latest malware definitions and do a complete scan.)

How full is your C: drive? Too little free space will affect your swap space. Try running a disk cleanup - rclick on C: drive in explorer and choose Properties: disk cleanup.

and before that

Start -> Run

CMD chkdsk c: /f

I have run diagnostics with glary utilities and my laptop is already running better. No more memory warnings. I will delete some obsolete data and do some of the recommended tips in the thread above.

I think the 3Gb of Ramm is sufficient for this machine. It's been running like a dream for the past few years and I haven't installed any new software in about 2 years.

To add to that, my cellphone has 3GB of RAM. I'm sure good old clunky Windows with a few running apps will eat into that amount within no time!

Developers don't need a lot of RAM in any case, but the rest of us do.

I have 32GB of RAM, and Windows is always using at least 3-10GB with moderate usage.

Yeah but OP doesnt sound like a power user like some of us!
I cant live with anything below 8GB but most people are fine with lower.
Those machines arent bad with those specs and will handle the usual mail/web browsing without hassles.
Normally when I see that its svchost getting itself in a knot or another runaway process.
Heck if you let firefox loose it will nom all of you ram after a while.

Try this first,
Go to the power settings, advanced settings, i think its the "close lid" option, change it to "do nothing" instead of "turn of or go to sleep"
Im pretty sure this will work as we have a similar problem with Lenovo laptops.

That might work as well. As far I know sleep saves to ram and hibernation saves to hard drive.
