hi All

I have a Lenovo i3 laptop, it's a few years old (about 6).

For a while, i was getting notifications that it's not charging (even though it's plugged-in)

Now, it's dead and not charging at all.

I tried an universal charger but nothing.

A friend checked it out and said that the motherboard is gone.

And, not feasible to replace.

kindly advise on above/ options.

TIA

I presume you have also checked that the battery is still ok?

I have removed the battery and re-inserted it.

IIRC, once when i had removed the battery, the laptop could still work with the charger plugged in.

This doesn't seem to work now

Have you tried to reset internal battery?

Had a couple of Lenovo laptops that would stop charging and switching on, everytime resetting internal battery worked. Note: internal battery is not cmos battery

Uninstalling Lenovo Energy Management, That fix my problem with a G580.

I'm running Ubuntu on my laptop, no longer have Lenovo Energy Management

how do you reset the internal battery?
thanks

It could be under the service door, its a flat CR2032 battery, remove it and hold down the power button for 30 seconds then put it back in and reassemble.

Need to remove laptop from power, remove batery and open back cover. Internal battery is not the CR 2032 battery, it is quite a big unit with a plug that you need to unplug (google for your specific model laptop). There should be a small white reset button close to battery that you must press to reset, plug battery back in, and test

Its a 7 year old laptop, the battery isn't charging. Very simple to troubleshoot. Get a new battery. Batteries have a very limited lifespan.
