Okay a friend of mine have a Dell 510m Inspiron laptop. The other day he's laptop just stopped charging. When it's connected via the power adapter it works fine, so obviously I told him the battery might have gone.

He bought a new battery and the laptop worked fine for 2 hours until it was flat. When he plugged in the power supply to start charge it, again nothing. Battery's is not charging.

Any ideas?

All he needs to do is use a multimeter on the power adaptor and confirm he's getting the required dc volts as indicated on the adaptor, if he is then there must be problem on the laptop itself. However don't completely rule out the new battery,as it maybe a factory fault.

My brother's laptop also gave problems with charging, although the battery was fine, we found out that the connector where the charger goes into the laptop, was damaged, by damaged i mean there where the connector goes inside the laptop to the motherboard/battery was damaged. But i think checking the charger might be better, because the type of failure I'm talking about happens very seldom.

Thx guys. We've tried flashing the bios to fix the problem BUT it gives a error message saying the adapter is not plugged in and it is. He'll just have to take it to a Dell service centre
