so I bought a Samsung evo 120gb ssd from a bloke. I need to clone it before I do the swop out of the hdd but the laptop doesn't detect it. it gives the 'unrecognized usb device error'. its not the dock since I popped in a harddrive to backup some data. when I put in the ssd I hear the pop the laptop usually makes but it doesn't install the device drivers.

cant see it in the disk management or the BIOS.

Connect the SSD into the current drive's place in the laptop, then go to the laptop BIOS, and see if it is detecting it there.

best thing would be to connect it into a desktop pc alongside your OS drive, to see if the SSD itself is not faulty.

I can see the ssd in the bios. So my vantec seems to be the issue with not detecting it properly. Sux.

Do I need to get a USB cable to connect this drive to the laptop?
