Laptop not starting up

My collegues laptop just shows a blank screen with the curser when you put it on. What can this be & how do I fix it?

does booting into safe mode work? assuming it is running windows

I switch it on, I hear the fan go on and i see a curser pop up on a blank (black) screen. Nothing else happens.

Could be resuming from hibernate.

Remove power and battery for a minute so there is no power going into it at all. Replace power and battery and try again.

Could be the hibernate has become corrupt.

To add to JUGGY you could also remove and reseat the RAM and HDD which should be accessable from the bottom panel, possible they came loose.

Thanx, i removed the battery for a minute and now its working again.
