Hi guys,

My laptop was giving me a lot of problems (vista :< ) and has finally decided not to start up anymore (even after I've tried using boot recovery). So, I decided to load Windows XP again. Everything was going fine throughout the installation until it got the the "windows" part of it (the place where it tunes it will take approx 38 mins).

Whenever I get there (it somethings runs for a little while) my laptop throws me a bluescreen. The error message at the top says: "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". What I've read about this error is that it could be something to do with driver settings or a hardware conflict, but I've got no idea how to rectify this (since I'm still busy installing the software).

The technical information:
Code:
*** STOP: 0*0000007F (0*00000005, 0*00000000, 0*000000000, 0*00000000)

Thanks for any help

Did you format the drive? Try load vista as shark says and if it still gives error's you more than likely have a hardware fault somewhere.

make sure you have the proper drivers, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL indicates normally that hardware is to blame, in this case most probably just a driver. check to see that the drivers u are using are proper XP drivers, and try get your hands on updated drivers..sure that will solve your problem

I think it is your RAM that is bad. Download the free memory scanner from www.memtest.org and do a bootup scan from bootable CD or floppy. This will maybe explain why you had problems in Vista too.

If it finishes the Vista install process then its a XP driver issue. If the Vista install also fails then I would also go with the RAM problem.

Not necessarily the error could come from really any hardware fault, including over heating...but I agree that would narrow down the possibilities

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm in the process of getting a Hirens Bootable CD to check for any hardware errors.

If that comes up dry, I will try installing Vista again.

And, if all fails, I'll take it back to the retailer :''(

Make sure if you attempt to install XP that you use a SP2 integrated disc at minimum, SP3 recommended.

SP1 is well known to throw IRQL_error out whenever it feels an itch somewhere.

Is this a new laptop? If it is, I wouldn't even attempt to fix it and take it back.

Again, thanks for the help. Just letting you guys know that I got robbed last night..

My laptop is gone T_T
