Hi All,

SO needs a new Laptop - any leads or suggestions as to, where and what I can get?
Budget up to R8K
Usage: Pastel Accounting (OS, unfortunately must be Windows??), MS-Office, day-to-day accounting activities, e.g. SARS online, online browsing, etc.

Thanks

I can only recommend waiting for a good special on Takealot. I found they had decent prices, and when I had a technical issue with the laptop I bought from them they gave me a full refund and I bought a laptop from a different brand from them. :)

For that budget, you're in the sweet spot to buy a Core i5 on a special ... I recommend Lenovo for their awesome sound quality at that price range.

A good special at Makro and buy with an EBucks 40% voucher is your best bet.

If you're going to do that, make very sure that you know exactly what model you're buying. I might be wrong, but it appears to me that Makro offers great prices by buying older stock in bulk, and then dumping it at slashed prices.

With technology taking a vast leap forward with every generation, you generally want to ensure that you buy the latest newest when it comes out (especially if you're paying R8k). Makro is fine if you're looking for the cheapest, and are just looking for 'good enough'.

Thanks for this. On Takealot currently this is on special, product info indicates i5 processor as well as the product filter, but description = i3

For those use cases, an i3 is more than sufficient. They come with 4Gb which should be fine (more would be better but not critical).

Woah, prices of these things are crazy nowadays. 6K for a basic i3 laptop is robbery

That's funny, title and product description both point to it being an i3 though, so I think hang on for a good special on the i5 variant if you can. Takealot has regular laptop promotions through their 'Daily Deals' page, and also check their 'App Deals' through the mobile app (a different list of daily special deals). Trust me, I've used an i3 at work and I always used to enjoy my i5, and it gives you a bit of flexibility if you ever want to do something that requires a slightly stronger processor. It's not a vast difference, but for me it was worth it :)
