You have HM55 chipset:

Any DDR3 - 1066 ram will work.
DDR3-1066 is also known as PC3-8500

Max 8gig for that chipset though, so 2 x 4G, or 1x8G if you want to go that route.
You may be able to mix / match older ram with new ram, but I'd recommend replace for complete peace of mind.

Faster ram may or may not work, I'd suggest buy appropriate ram and test if you really truly can't find any.
It is definitely still being produced and sold, so I'd guess you weren't looking too hard.

Tx. will keep looking.

Most RAM that seems suitable come up as MAC though..

DDR = Double Data Rate
3 = Version of DDR
1066 = Rated Frequency
PC3 = {acronym same as DDR3} theoretical bandwidth
8500 = frequency JEDEC 8500/8 = 1063 theoretical bandwidth

Ram isn't Mac or PC or Linux specific.
Its chipset specific.

Just because its called "Mac ram" doesn't make it suitable for Mac's only.

You buy ram based on spec requirements, not a label called "Mac" or "PC".

If you have a USB stick lying around you can use that in the mean time to boost your laptop performance just enable ReadyBoost, right-click a USB stick in Windows Explorer, select Properties, and use the options on the ReadyBoost tab.
