Hi all,

I have a Lenovo R500 laptop. One of the USB input clips has broken. First option with be to repair it at the official Lenovo support guys. Does anyone have the contact details?

Also failing that, or in the event they charge something stupid, what other places are reliable that can do this?

I stay in Roodepoort, Gauteng.

TIA

LOL. It appears my latop still has it's warranty. I wonder whether the repairs will be covered.

Thanks Budza. This will be cool for an external hdd that is usb 3.

No it won't be covered as it's physical damage from the way in which a usb device was inserted/removed. Even if it's just from over use...

Might be cheaper to get a usb hub. An externally powered hub will probably be best.

Otherwise it's likely to be cheaper at a ''private''/not Brandname repair agent/company.

:)
Best as it's flush with case. Can get a 2 port version, but it sticks out.

Got a 2.5" 1TB USB3 external, sees ~60MB/s throughput. Sure a 3.5" 7200rpm could be faster. Not sure what Expresscard slot limit is though, which is the likely bottleneck.

Hmmm. Thanks. Let's see what they quote me.

budza's suggestion I think would be best/cheapest (forgot about that earlier) then external usb, if you have another functional port left

edit: i'd be suprised if they charge you less than R750 probably R1000 or more as the MB would have to be stripped out to be worked on & then reassembled afterwards..

:wtf:

I am not 100% familiar with your laptop.

generally when it comes to laptops it takes an hour or more to get the board out. then on reassembly all the screws have to go in the right places. there are often 50 or more screws.

the worste I saw was 137 (can't remember model, about a year ago). I stayed & watched as a PSU connector was repaired purely out of curiousity.

That is why alternatives to repair have been given. Also often with board repairs you are given no more than 3months warrantee on the actual repair = if something else breaks after that you have to pay again.
