Hi....need help please....My work Laptop just goes to command screen then restarts when I try to make Skype call....I think it might be as a result of security restriction. Anybody knows how to by pass this?

Laptop has windows 2000 installed, service pack 4.

well knock it off with those Skype calls man! You computer will love you. :p

sounds like a hardware issue as the laptop crashes as it is about to use the sound card or mic or what ever.

Okay, just updated my Sound Card drivers....but it still restarts! Do u guys think the issue could be related to Sophos anti virus or just security restrictions?

Do u guys know what this is..."PCI Simple Communication Controller"? It appears with exclamation mark under computer management

What new applications have you installed ?
Was skype working before.

It could be conflict.
Delete any new applications installed.

And check your TASK BAR MANAGER.

No new applications installed....when they gave me the laptop first thing I did was to install skype.

Think the problem could be with the "PCI Simple Communications Controller" which doesnt have drivers installed.

Do you guys know what this is "PCI Simple Communications Controller"

Do a fresh new install of your OS...
Use Wikipedia and Google for the answer.

My friend in the uk had the same problem. Download a older version of Skype try 2.5 it has something to do with the CPU. All was good after that. Just disable Skype updates. Or you will sit with the same problem.

"pci simple communications controller" is a modem without a driver installed.

that is problem 1

problem 2 (skype) is Thor telling you to stop using skype....I think...

(yez chaps, just got back form christmas drinks @ work)

If you disable your audio, as well as from Skype, does the system still crash when a call comes through?

I had this issue about 2 years ago. Every time the call connected (other side answered) my laptop rebooted. It did not happen when I received Skye calls.

I re-installed Windows after days of troubleshooting and the problem went away. I did use the latest version on XP available at the time though so it was newer than the previous one.
