Laptop screen problem.

Turns out...

:o

The smudge has always been there and the reason they gave me the laptop is because the screen totally wasn't working, but miraculously fixed itself when I switched the damn thing on.

So... next problem, the stupid thing is overheating, what can I do to alleviate this issue? :D

Ah I had that a few times with a few hp's, thing would work sometimes and other times screen would switch off.

Strip and clean.

You can check for a newer bios version which could fix bug issues with the fan settings.

do some googling and see if it is a common issue on that model and if there is a newer bios version.

And wash your hands :p

Oh or could be something like a screen inverter on the way out, but if it is getting hot then turning off I would follow my above post first.

If you are hesitant about opening it google a maintennance manual and it will explain how to open as laptops can be finicky, I.e you have to remove this panel before this etc.

Good luck

Strip it, use a paint brush to clean out any dust etc. Remove heatsinks & thermal paste, apply AS5 thermal paste and reassemble.
