I've started having a problem with my laptop's sound this week, more specifically today.

My volume is max and I'm playing music, but it's much softer than it usually was.

I have checked the sound properties (Vista Home Premium), everything checks out.

I've got a Soundmax (Analog devices) HD sound chip.

It's not my imagination, it's definitely softer than usual, which sucks.

Any suggestions?

tera, some laptops have a physical vokume control turny-knob on the side/front/back.
quite often..
1) the user doesnt know they exist
2) it gets bumped/moved when putting machine into a bag, or taking it out of a bag.

then the complaint matches your post...sound is softer and i dont know why..etc..

No volume control other than FN and the volume buttons, I checked thoroughly.
the volume in general or maybe mp3's in winamp?
Windows Media Player and Winamp, sound in general, even Windows sounds are softer than usual.
All you need to do is plug in your earphones and see if it is loud, put it on maxed,if you not happy then there is a setting you missing.

I don't have earphones. I seem to get a set of earphones and someone generally takes the burden off me, it's a sick circle that is bound to continue until my dying day.

I reinstalled the sound driver and it's as if I had a small increase in volume. This Soundmax chip does not have a control panel specifically associated with it, so all settings are manufacturer default (Toshiba).

I'm a bit clueless what to do, to be honest.
