Complete noob regarding this.
I did some searching but there are so many different opinions and options that it confused me.
I basically want to hook up my laptops to my plasma when the family comes over to show them photos and videos from different folders. Also want to show them some spreadsheets, price lists, menus and brochures detailing the planning of our wedding.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN CR25 laptop and also HP Pavillion DV6930us.
TV is a Samsung PS42B430 Plasma.
Laptops does not have HDMI or DVI output. Only S-Video and VGA.
Plasma only has Component, Composite and HDMI inputs. No S-video, DVI or VGA input.
I am not worried about sound. Will not be used, but if necessary I do have a mini-jack to RCA cable somewhere.
Yesterday I walked past Hi-Fi Corp and saw an S-video to RCA cable for R30.00 and gave it a go.
It works, but the quality of the output is not that great to be honest. Text is rather blurry and pixelated. And the cable loses the signal sometimes.
Reading up a bit I found out that VGA has a better quality output. Or that is what some people say.
Is there anyway I can connect the laptops via VGA? Taking into account that the TV does not have VGA or DVI input.
This is what is confusing to me. Some people say you get VGA to RCA cables and it works. Others say it is impossible because it is 2 different signals and you need some sort of adapter.
Or is there any other way to connect them? An easier way.
I would prefer to buy cables, adapters from brick and mortar stores but if all else fails will order online.
TIA.
