Looking to replace my Sony vaio S15 with something similar since it's starting to show its age performance wise.

Mostly use it on my lap in front of TV while the wife is watching series. Playing strategy, rpg, turn based games plus internet browsing. Sound quality not really an issue since volume down anyway.

Prefer 15 inch to 17, less bulky is better. Not too hot since used on lap. Full HD required, ssd preferred.

Lenovo Y5070 looking like a good buy right now at takelot sub R15k.

Any advice?

Yeah I'm only interested in getting value for money, so as long as I can remove that, I couldn't be bothered.

Back to the question - the Lenovo laptop looks like good value, nothing else in its price range with gtx960m

Lenovo usually under performed , a big NO.

How about Asus , Msi and Gigabyte ? Pretty sure they have something within your budget.

The Lenovo Y5070 is a great deal if you're looking for a semi gaming machine. Battery life makes it less portable and there extra heat to consider. You'll be able to game mostly above 30fps on 1080p, but these are still lower mid-end solutions.. Check out the offerings from Asus too, GL552jx and the GL551 Or the Inspiron 15 7559 in this range. EDIT: these undervolt well from XTU for some extra reduction in heat. Those IPS screens will put you tv to shame ;)

If buy for business and needing more portability, look more at the dual core skylake offerings.

Have an aspire s7 for business /Travel so this will be purely entertainment use.

Had a look at the Asus

It looks slightly less specced (gtx960m 2gb vs 4gb; i5 4200h vs i7 4720) for R15600 vs R14500 for the Lenovo. The takelot special makes this one tough to beat. The hdd of the Lenovo is a worry, but can always be swopped at some point for a larger ssd
