Hi All
My USB ports on my laptop seem to be acting up. Sometimes it works but most of the time, it doesn't.
Nothing comes up when I put it a flash etc...

Any suggestions? Windows 7
I've been told to uninstall all the USB all the Universal Serial Bus Controllers from device manager and restart the laptop.

Is this advisable? What are the risks involved by doing this?

Thanks

Since one port is working on your computer, it could be an issue with the port itself. However, Use Device Manager to disable and re-enable all the USB controllers. This lets the controllers recover the USB port from its unresponsive condition

1. Click Start, Type devmgmt.msc, and then clickOK. Device Manager opens.

2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Note You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.

3. Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then clickUninstall to remove it.

4. Repeat step 3 for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

5. Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

6. Check the USB device to see whether it is working.
