One of our offices is experiencing no end of problems with cable theft.

We're looking to switch them over to one of the new "3G" / HsxPA type connections, but they use between 50GB and 100GB of traffic a month.

I'm looking for mobile data costing between 2c and 3c a MB.

We've probably all heard of packages like this being offered, but it seems the lowest price I've been able to find is 13c a MB at Cell-C.

Which networks offer packages like this and how do we get one?

Thanks

Why not first check out if you have wisps around to help you?

They can put a cpe up for you and would be fixed high up upon your roof which would make it difficult for theft and it is much cheaper then 3g

Let me explain this in a different way.

We have an office out in the Northern Cape that has one employee and services about 30 clients. In other words about 80% of the local farming community and half the people in the dorpie.

We have a leased line from there to our POP in Uppington to provide service to the clients. When the leased line works, life is good. When the druggies need money and they cut the cable, things are bad. When it's near the end of the financial year and the local telco advise us that they don't have money left in their budget to buy cable, we have a problem. I've considered a wifi backhaul to Upington, but it's not a viable option as it would entail two solar powered repeaters in areas where theft is a problem. There is, however 3G from all three operators, which is why I am looking at using that as a backup for situations like now.

The other problem is that the local computer oke is now running around installing illegal cellular repeaters as fast as he can import them from Singapore, meaning that our customer base is shrinking on a daily basis.

If this keeps up, one month from now and we won't need to have an office there.

So how are the mobile operators getting their backhaul in and why are they not affected by the cable theft? Without knowing the costs it might be worth finding out of DFA has fibre in the ground.

Microwave to their HUGE highsite about 25km away. All three appear to share a single tower. I looked into using that same tower and the high site rentals means it's not a viable option.

Ouch. Really is tough servicing remote areas.
