Largest cricket ground in SA?

I assume that the list is 1st class cricket test grounds

so no beach :D
- the only place I can play cricket

One better than me - champion in the back yard. Into the azaleas were six-and-out!

Not sure about those figures hey, the Wanderers seemed pretty small every time I've went. I can't imagine that there are grounds that are so much smaller.

Probably the stands all around that make it appear smaller.

Before they built the new complex at the Park Drive End, I hit a 6 that landed in the primary school across the road :p

What, did you change your handle from MickeyA to -D?

So the playing areas (boundary size) at different grounds vary

EDIT: from wikipedia

The playing area shall be a minimum of 150 yards (137.16 metres) from boundary to boundary square of the pitch, with the shorter of the two square boundaries being a minimum 65 yards (59.43 metres). The straight boundary at both ends of the pitch shall be a minimum of 70 yards (64.00 metres). Distances shall be measured from the centre of the pitch to be used. In all cases the aim shall be to provide the largest playing area, subject to no boundary exceeding 90 yards (82.29 meters) from the centre of the pitch to be used.

interesting -_-

Did you not notice they seem bigger in some places?
The MCG in Aus is so damn large the guys run 5/6.

The grounds' sizes seemed to vary but I assumed the actual playing area was based on a standard size :o

To further confuse the issue those measurements only apply to stadiums built after Oct 2007. Stadiums already in existence prior to that date don't need to meet the minimum size requirement.

In PE they club sixes which on the same ground in Aus wouldn't even go for a four.

I find this rather fascinating.

/sorry for the thread derail ...

St Georges seems smaller to me.
But that's maybe because I've watched more cricket there.
Newlands seemed much larger but that could be the seating over the ground.

Received from a stats freak:

Bloemfontein 155 x 135m
Wanderers 150 x 125m
Centurion 145 x 125m
East London 140 x 135m
Kingsmead 140 x 120m
St George's 135 x 125m
Newlands 130 x 130m

I presume this is lengthwise diameter x width diameter. The differences does not seem very big, but a 10m difference in total width means 5m extra on each side. I would have thought that Centurion is much bigger than Wanderers. Also Newlands looks much bigger than Wanderers on TV. Its because Wanderers have shorter square boundaries but longer straight boundaries than newlands. A bigger square boundary makes a ground look a lot bigger on TV than the straight boundaries.

Diamond Oval in Kimberley is also pretty big and Boland Park is also decent size. Both might look bigger than they are because the stadium is small.
