The web’s largest players especially in the search engine business are now onboard the OpenID platform supporting a move enabling web users to use one identity to access different services across the entire web.
Google is the most recent company to start supporting OpenID with the release of information to developers and integration on its own systems.
Google will allow web services to join a limited test of an API based on the OpenID 2.0 protocol that will give Google Account users the option to sign in to websites with their Google credentials and without having to sign up for a new account on those sites. The launch partners for this new API include Zoho, Plaxo, and Buxfer.
Google, like other big names have decided to not refer to the OpenID system by name. It opted to simply say “Sign in with a Google Account.”
This move is sure to end up in a massive adoption of the OpenID system which gives web users a much less restrictive or rather tedious web experience.
