Lasik eye surgery

Can we maybe make this a sticky?

Guys can we perhaps post details of
1) doctors used
2) Price paid
3) location of doctors
4) success / unsuccessful?
5) Medical Aid cover it?

Would help a lot

2) No idea, I was 18 at the time

4) success? Hell yes!
5) Medical Aid cover it? Paid for it myself. Discovery said yes they will pay but only from the medical savings account. The quote on the operation was then also R5000 more. So I went the cash route.

4) Not really as my sight has steadily declined over the years, although was 'ok' for a year or so

Looking at getting someone better to fix this, hopefully someone here can recommend a better doctor :)

5) At the time only half so I scheduled each eye a week apart over the medical aid financial year end(Clever eh?) Not long after they covered the full cost.
 
Maybe you need to define it as Lasik eye surgery, there are many procedures involving laser treatment but they dont all do the same thing.
 
My wife just got both her eyes done last week.

4.)gonna have to wait and "see" :D
5.) Had to pay cash and busy trying to claim from Discovery so will also once again wait and see if they will pay. Should do though as I have a crap load of money in my savings account.
 
Just contacted Dr Nortjie in westville, the initial consult with him is R2.5k .... is that normal rates?? as that seems like a lot to me.
Anyone had any dealings with this doc before??
 
Ok i went to doc in Northcliff initial cost was R1600 very thorough appointment.
Could not drive afterwards.
Could not see properly for whole day.
Total cost of lasik is around 25k.
Will post details asap

You are not suppose to drive from what I recall.
Weird, I could see fine through the holes in the eye patch immediately after surgery.
