Last day bandwidth abuse before cap hits.

I was capped this month, not my doing as I share an ADSL line and cap. However, the last day (50mb) before we get capped we disconnect and reconnect and I download all the ques. I think my best last day effort was around 3G. This month I ran out of things to download. Am going to look for my record when I have time and when I'm not downloading Ubuntu packages for Gutsy, current bandwidth is used up and websites take forever to look open..

So, what last day effort records have you set up? That 2715.88 MB extra gives me almost double my value for money. 88.4% extra international cap.

Im confused as to why you are proud of this or advertising it?
Its for this reason that things like local bandwidth are capped "due to abuse by the few"
Its also because of this that the ADSL services slow down so badly at the end of the month and disconnects so often.

1. I get more value for money.

2. I used extra INTERNATIONAL bandwidth. I don't use local but for Ubuntu upgrades. Now 6G is hardly enough for 2 people. 100G local does not affect the capacity of the backbone. According to an old discussion with the TENET administrator, Andrew something, RSA is using about 1% of their local bandwidth capacity, so they are just screwing you by capping local and you sit back without trying to abuse the system. It is hardly the fault of individuals who do download more than 30G locally if you get capped. It is the fault of Telkom and their stinginess.

3. Yes, at the end of the month everyone tries to leach their cap, because it does not carry over, if it did carry over ISPs won't have that problem, it is in their control to solve the problem.

Now you were on local DC++ servers not long ago if I recall correctly (I have since stopped wasting my time with DC for more efficient means) so don't point fingers. (if that was indeed you)

Very interesting point you make there. I dont mean to ber unfair either but the large corps enjoy the control because they are probably making more money that way. Greed rulez the world!

I know the TENET administrator personally and would advise that you dont mention his or other peoples names on a public forum.
I am aware that the full local potential is not being utilized, I was using that as an example of a service that was removed due to abuse.

Sorry man, wasnt me I also use more efficient means, DC++ never grabbed my interest.


But just to let you know this isnt a personal stab at you, its just me getting bleak about the situation of bandwidth in this country, we should not have to say how much we got out of our feeble connections, its should rather be a moot point as everyone has uncapped fast access.

Do you think they would stop whether we did or did not? I don't think, in fact, if we stopped all they would think is, their marketing campaign is working!

I dont try to push the cap because if I am without bandwidth, I am really stuck, but I also don't agree with the fact that these corps are trying to keep a lid on the growth that we are supposed to experience.

The word "abuse" is being abused as an excuse for companies who are not willing to allow internet users the freedom they deserve.

Another example of this is the use of Dynamic IP's (forced shift of ip-address every 12 hours), this is to force those people who want to provide an online service to spend their hosting money with the large corps, instead of inspiring millions of people to learn more about windows and/or linux to try and set-up their own services; could you see the advantage here; however their profits are more important than the growth of a society i.e. we'll remain a 3rd world country if they keep on thinking like that.

I don't know how to solve the problem, but I am able to identify that one exists.

Yeah its annoying have to use Dyndns.org and the like to host things, I am VERY against the state of telecoms in this country.
