Last.fm on 384kbps ADSL

Is ADSL 384kbps sufficient to stream last.fm stations? I'm currently on iBurst 1Mbps (more like 2bps but anyway)... will 384kbps ADSL be sufficient to stream these stations?

Downstream definitely works (antfarm.co.za). If you are hosting/upstreaming then it should probably also work...but I'm guess there.

What rate do the radio stations stream at?
My guess would be 64Kb/s.
i.e. 64Kilobits/second
384 is 384Kilobits/second.

B = Bytes, b = bits

But, during the normal working day, if your ISP has sold you a shaped account, then you'll only get true 384Kb/s every now and then because a shaped account gives priority to Browsing, so if a lot of people are browsing, sorry for you.

You can purchase an unshaped account, it will perform better, but it will also be more expensive.

I listen to 5fm on a 384 line and I have no problems so I dont think you will either

as long as you don't do any other browsing, it works perfectly ......... just chows alot of cap be warned

I think last.fm won't stream over 128kbps.

While we're on a similar topic. I'm running the Last.fm application that scrobbles your plays. Every time you load a song it loads up the bands band information and image. Does this use tons of bandwidth?

I would imagine so ........... maybe not a ton but unnecessary wastage maybe.

Uhm its basically 2 pics (album + artist) and a brief overview, over all i'd say no as it caches the content but it does add up. Over all i'd say no, i use it for scrobling and it works fine.. if you have the last.fm app window closed/minimized it will not download that content, only when the window is open and you mouse over the song/band name
