LastPass hacked and source code stolen

Here is the long and the short....

Websites and software cannot be secured. Unfortunately just not possible. The hackers probably have all the required keys now to decrypt any or all record.

You deal online, you are open to hackers. Easy as that. No matter which website you use. No matter what bank you use. They are all open to hacking and nothing can be done to prevent it.

If there was indeed a way to secure any website or software program, companies would have been all over it already and hacking would not have existed today.

Ain't you a ray of sunshine.

User, password, 2fa and an email confirmation with action required if you try to access it from an unfamiliar location.

"Ah time to log into my email on my new laptop... 'Enter the confirmation code emailed to you'... damn it"

Guess I am in the market for a new password manager....
KeePass. It's more DIY compared to these services, but at least you have the choice to do what you want with it.
You'll have to get a plugin that allows cloud syncing with whatever cloud service you use though.

KeePass2Android is a fantastic app too so you can access your KDBX from your Android phone.

Some fun reading.

Please stop the fear mongering. You have no idea what you are talking about.

That is why there is an entire section of IT dedicated to vulnerability management with a whole suite of tools used for detecting and mitigating exploits and containing breaches

Yet none of these departments ever seem to stop hacking....

Thing is, we need to accept that the Internet is not secure and can never be secure.

Like I said, if it was possible it would have been already. News articles like this would not have been there.

it could be because plenty of these "Security experts" are glorified auditors etc :sneaky:;):giggle::cool:

You are right, hacking will never be stopped - it's too lucrative now. Gone are the days when they did it for fun. It's a huge business now.

There is no site that is 100% safe nor will there ever be, but you can make it 99.99% safe and have the tools/processes in place to detect breaches as soon as possible and close down the holes as soon as possible. It's all a case of being prepared for when it happens.

Too many hacks are still done over badly maintained systems, default passwords, missing patches, services exposed that shouldn't be.

Indeed - like every other industry. There are too many paper "experts" that's have no experience.

Generally been happy with LastPass but this will probably make me switch

This is why I use Bitwarden. Opensource, anyone can see the code already.
