I was just wondering if anyone else noticed that the local latencies are getting worse as time passes. I use to get pings < 50ms to certain local sites but the latency has now increases to about 120ms.

I was just wondering what are your latencies to www.myadsl.co.za for example?

64 bytes from dedi65a.your-server.co.za (196.7.147.165): time=124 ms
64 bytes from dedi65a.your-server.co.za (196.7.147.165): time=121 ms

Latencies seems to be growing with about 2ms each month.
If this keeps up playing games local will be just as bad as playing games internationally.

I can not agree with you more. Latency in South Africa is going from bad to worse. I suspect the peering links between top tier ISPs is to blame. Most of the peering links are running at full capacity, hence the bad latency and packet loss.

Not that this adds much to the discussion since this is using Iburst, where we would expect crappy latency anyway.

I used to get like 500ms to 1000ms when I play games but this last weak I had some nice speeds about 360ms for 512kdsl on mweb

overseas

mine seem ok on SAIX 384...

The issue seems to be with Capetown adsl connections.

Those of your noticing high local ping during business hours, are you from Cape Town area?

Well I'm in Bloem and the pings for both SAIX and IS are about 120ms.
This is nonsense, I see some of the people are getting nice < 50ms pings, that is what I use to get. I wonder how much worse it is going to get?

Imagine the local pings of certain cities going up to > 200ms for local omw.

Yup. Pinging games.saix.net used to average 15ms, now it's on 35ms. Not much difference, but still.

Pinging MyADSL, IOL, etc averages around 65ms during the day. I recall it being around 40ms a few months ago.

This increase has only happened over the past few months.

Clipse, any idea why Cape Town is being effected by this?

I think Telkom cant do better. Technical reasons. The rest they tell you ist just sand in your eyes

Mine seems fine...
