I am looking for a seriously cheap connection to do RTS online gaming (warcraft 3) with, so what are the ping times like on the new mywireless flexi packages? If its anything around 300ms for local ping that would be awesome, coz atm I have tried gprs and that usually sits at 700ms or higher. I don't want to get dialup coz thats a waste at an hourly rate :/

Any wireless connection will give you eratic pings ranging from 80 to 800.

Damn, guess no1 here actually has it and is willing to comment! I am aware of the instability of wireless pings, I was just hoping to get some actual numbers.

Like for CellC GPRS its roughly 500 but roughly every 5-8 pings it jumps to 700 or higher. I know that translates to roughly like every 3-4 seconds it doubles its ping, but I have somehow managed to play a couple of games on it.

Can't any1 here comment on the latencies they get to local games servers?

I know the general rule of thumb is wireless is absolutely NOT for gaming but really, dialup/isdn/dsl is actually way more expensive than buying a pre-packaged data bundle such as the FlexiLITE available from sentech :(

You should get pings well under 300ms for local. If you want to play DotA, this should work out fine.

For local FPS it will be a problem though, but I can't comment on Sentech latencies, iBurst is fine for War3 though. All depends on your connection too obviously.

Hi

I tried Skype last night and it worked flawlesly. It was after 7 though so probably out of peak time...
